Are Moldovan Citizens Eligible for a Pension Refund?

Yes — under Germany’s Social Security Agreement with Moldova, you may be eligible for a refund if:

  • You contributed to the German pension system (DRV)

  • You worked in Germany for fewer than 60 months (5 years*)

  • You are not receiving a German pension

  • You now live outside the European Union/United Kingdom

  • 24 months have passed since your last pension payment

*Periods of unemployment and parental leave also count toward your pension record — even if you didn’t work during that time.

If you qualify, we’ll help you recover what you’re owed — usually within just a few weeks.

🧾 How to Check If You’ve Hit the 60-Month Limit

In Germany, every month counts — even if you only worked a single day.
For example: If you worked on August 31st, that counts as a full month toward your 60-month limit.

Also included:

  • Unemployment periods (ALG I)

  • Maternity or parental leave

  • Voluntary contributions

If you're unsure, use our free eligibility check and we'll assess your case for you.

💶 What Can I Expect to Receive?

The average refund for Moldovan citizens is €14,800, but your actual amount depends on your income and duration of employment.

You will usually receive:

  • 100% of mandatory contributions deducted from your salary

  • 50% of any voluntary pension contributions (e.g. freelancers)

As of 2025, the German pension contribution rate is 9.3% of gross income, but only up to a monthly income cap (Beitragsbemessungsgrenze) of €8,050.

This means that only income up to €8,050 per month is subject to pension deductions. Any income above that amount is not deducted, and therefore not included in the refund calculation.

💼 What Does It Cost?

Our service is risk-free and based on success. You only pay after you receive your refund.

  • ✅ No upfront fee

  • ✅ No hidden legal cost

  • ✅ Only 9.75% of your refund (includes VAT and legal support)

If your refund is not approved, you pay nothing.

🏦 Do I Need a German Bank Account?

No. The funds are received in an escrow account operated by a German law firm. Your refund can be transferred to:

  • Your Moldovan bank account

  • A family member's account

  • Any international account of your choice

All transfers are secure, compliant, and fast.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Can I return to Germany after claiming my refund?

Yes. Your refund only applies to past contributions. It does not affect future visas or the ability to work, study, or move back to Germany later.

How long do I have to apply?

There’s no strict deadline, but once you reach pension age and qualify for a pension, you can no longer request a refund. If you want to get a refund it's best to apply soon after leaving the EU.

What if I already contributed for 60 months or more?

You may not be eligible for a refund, but could qualify for a monthly pension from Germany when you retire.
